Arise Community School: Another Step Towards Community Integration Since it first opened its doors three years ago, the shared philosophy of Arise School and ACE has been to develop it as a community resource, available for use by the local village when the school is closed. Getting married is a very special occasion in all countries and we were delighted to learn last week that a young couple had approached the school to ask if they could have their wedding there. It was a great success as the photos testify. The school are now looking at the possibility of developing this as a means of bringing in income to help them on their journey towards becoming self-sustaining. The grounds are becoming well established with everything from beautiful bird of paradise plants to banana and papaya trees. The lush, green foliage provides both shade and a great background for photographs. A marquee is being costed out and, also, the possibility of the catering being done by the school (on this occasion, outside caterers were brought in). And, of course, if she lifts her head out of the clouds at the right time, Mt. Kilimanjaro makes the most beautiful, awe inspiring backdrop to a magical day! If this takes off, it will be a big step forward for the school in terms of community integration. We wish them well in progressing the initiative.
