Cronton Children learn about Tanzania!

 

Following a presentation on the work of ACE earlier this year, last week, pupils of Cronton C.E. Primary School held a Tanzania Learning Week. The children learned all about Tanzania – it’s culture, geography and lifestyle. They also learned how very different school and life in general are for children growing up in Tanzania today.

Over the course of the week, we spent time with every class sharing our experiences of life in Tanzania. In particular, we told them about how children at Arise Community School live their lives, both at home and at school. We also told them about some of the more traditional aspects of Tanzanian life and culture, including the tribal system, traditional crafts, dress and food.

The children undertook activities and worked very creatively to make things with a Tanzanian theme – animal masks, Tanzanian flags, brooches and paintings, bead necklaces and bracelets, butterflies, croc cakes and cookies.

 

At the end of the week, they sold these at a market place to raise funds for Arise School. Parents and grandparents escorted their children around the market place where there was also the opportunity to have a go at the African Safari Hunt and to find the treasure on a map of Tanzania. The school hall was buzzing – not unlike a real Tanzanian market!

 

We want to say a huge “thank you” to everyone at Cronton C.E.School – children and staff – who gave us the opportunity to work with them last week and helped to raise over £437! Very well done! We greatly enjoyed our time with you.

Thank you, too, to the parents, grandparents, other family members and friends who supported the market place. It was a fantastic effort. The children are now planning to continue to fundraise for the charity. Their efforts will make a very real difference to what ACE can achieve for the children at Arise School.
