Arise Pupils Help St. Helens Children Celebrate European Day of Languages
Over the years, pupils and staff at Queen’s Park CE/URC School in St. Helens, Merseyside, have raised money and supported Arise in many ways. This year, in planning their event to celebrate European Day of Languages, Year 2 reached out to their fellow pupils at Arise to enrich their learning beyond Europe.
European Day of Languages is celebrated in countries across Europe in September every year to promote the richness and diversity of the languages spoken and to raise awareness of the importance of lifelong language learning for everyone. This year, it also embraced pupils at Arise School in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania!
The Year 2 pupils at Queen’s Park had their photos taken with the letters they received from Arise. They absolutely loved reading them. In particular, they were fascinated by the favourite foods and the animals mentioned in them. They also made up a colourful display on Tanzania for their international corridor which was completed with the artwork they did on European Day of Languages.
We are sending the photos from Queen’s Park to Arise. We know that Class 2 will be delighted to receive them. Their participation in this event not only extends their language learning but also, very importantly, connects their hearts and minds, as Tanzanian children growing up in a very different culture, with their counterparts in Europe. We thank Queen’s Park for inviting Arise to participate in this way and for providing children with this opportunity.
