Arise Students’ Adventure at Tarangire National Park
In June, Arise School Grade 6 students, embarked on an unforgettable journey of nearly 200 kms to the Tarangire National Park. It was a trip filled with excitement, beauty and learning, plus the rare opportunity to view the iconic “Big Five”: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, and buffaloes!

Arriving at the park, their faces lit up with pure joy as they stepped into a world of wonder. Surrounded by lush greenery, fresh air and the sounds of nature, the scene was a refreshing escape from the pressures of their everyday classroom learning.

The safari kicked off with cheers and gasps as the guides revealed the park’s treasures – a lion lounging under a tree, a herd of elephants meandering nearby. They marvelled at a leopard resting on a branch, a rhinoceros grazing peacefully and a proud buffalo standing tall with its herd. Each sighting became a magical moment etched in their memories.

But this trip was more than just fun. It was a lesson in conservation. The park’s guides shared fascinating insights into the animals’ lives, their diets and behaviours, as they emphasised the importance of protecting these magnificent creatures from threats like poaching and habitat loss. Students discovered how vital these animals are to a balanced ecosystem.

Interactive learning stations allowed students to dive deeper. They asked questions, took notes and soaked in every detail shared by the rangers and veterinarians. Many were inspired to want to pursue careers in wildlife, dreaming of becoming park rangers or conservationist

“When I grow up, I want to be a park ranger,” said one of the ACE sponsored students, reflecting the passion ignited by the trip – an extremely rare opportunity for him and his fellow students.
As the day came to a close, the students gathered to share their favourite moments.
“I was amazed to see lion cubs feeding from their mother!” exclaimed another ACE student, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Teachers applauded their enthusiasm and encouraged them to share their newfound knowledge back at school. It was a never to be forgotten day, a perfect blend of fun, beauty, and education that fostered a deeper appreciation for wildlife and nature, leaving students with lasting memories and teaching them valuable lessons about conservation – an experience they will all cherish for many years to come!
Our thanks go to the Arise staff who organised this trip and, in particular, to those parents who generously contributed to the cost making it possible for sponsored students to participate along with their classmates.
