Africa's Children in Education

50………and Still Counting!

When Arise School opened in January 2013, it was our shared aspiration with Frank and his family that the school should be open to any child in the local community, irrespective of the means of his or her family.

In order to make that possible, in the very early days, we launched our Sponsorship Scheme. From two or three sponsored children, the number has now grown to the landmark figure of 50! And we are still counting. In fact, only this week, sponsors came forward for another child making a total of 51 children! (25 boys and 26 girls).

On our visits to Arise School, we have been out to the homes of some of these children. It is hard to find the words to describe the conditions in which they live. Their poverty is stark – no water, no electricity, virtually no possessions and barely enough food to live on. But one constant always comes through. However poor they are, what their families aspire to is that their children should be able to have an education. It is their shared hope that, through education, one day they may be able to lift themselves and their family out of poverty.

It is our sponsors who are making this dream become a reality for these 51 children. The eldest sponsored children are now almost halfway through their primary school education. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge “thank you” to all of our sponsors for their ongoing generosity, support and interest.

Yet, there are still so many children in the local community for whom education remains a dream. You, too, could sponsor a child and make their dream come true.

For less than the cost of a couple of cups of coffee a week, you could give a child their only chance of an education. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please email us on and we will send you the information on our Sponsorship Scheme. Thank you.
